LAHORE: The Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) launched on Tuesday a campaign in the northern Lahore, mainly in 16 union councils of Wagah and Aziz Bhatti towns, in order to improve state of cleanliness and mobilise local residents on the use of waste containers.

Some 250 tons of waste was removed from 20 plots on the inaugural day of the campaign that would continue till Jan 28, said a spokesperson.

An awareness walk was also arranged at Daroghawala which was ledby LWMC Senior Manager Operation Suhail Anwar Malik and Albayrak Senior Manager Operations Husain Kartal. Local residents were sensitised on sanitation and use of waste bins through briefing, distribution of leaflets and activities by mascot characters.

Special cleanliness arrangements were made by Albayrak, including mechanical sweeping and washing of roads.

The campaign would comprise cleanup operations, removal of waste from open plots, setting up camps for awareness and on spot redress of complaints and awareness walks, said the spokesperson.
