Expats commission a revolutionary step, says CM

LAHORE: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said setting up of Overseas Pakistani Commission Punjab is another revolutionary step of the provincial government.

He said the commission would play an important role in resolving problems and complaints of Pakistani expats.

He also said the government had given a constitutional cover to the commission that would be extended all-out support by the provincial government. He said he would personally monitor the commission.

The chief minister was addressing the first meeting of the commission on Tuesday. Overseas Pakistanis Commission Punjab Commissioner Afzaal Bhatti gave a briefing on the aims and objectives of the commission.

According to a handout, the chief minister said overseas Pakistanis were ambassadors of the country and the commission had been set up to resolve their problems. He said it would take effective steps for addressing the complaints of expatriates.

Shahbaz further said committees would be set up in every district while advisory councils comprising over-seas Pakistanis also constituted.

He said reputed people should be included in the district committees. He also said overseas Pakistanis could get their complaints registered online and he would monitor efficiency of the commission and the steps taken to resolve problems. He further said immediate action would be taken on the complaints.

The chief minister congratulated the commission`s Vice Chairperson Shaheen Khalid Butt and Commissioner Afzaal Bhatti on assuming their office. Bhatti assured the chief minister the commission would work in accordance with his vision and try to come up to his expectations.
