KHAR: Traders of Bajaur Agency`s Inayat Kalley Bazaar, the second largest commercial hub in the region, on Monday complained of poor business due to the absence of a proper drainage system in the area.

They told Dawn that things worsened during and after rainfall to the misery of the owners of 5,000 shops and their customers due to stagnant water.

Shopkeeper Aslam Khan said poor drainage had adversely affected his business and therefore, he was seriously thinking about relocating his business.

Aziz Khan said he had been running a fast food outlet in the bazaar for more than two decades but wanted to move to some other place due to poor drainage.

He said his clientele had been badly affected by the inundating of the bazaar by dirty water and that few people visited himduring and after rainy days.

The traders said their repeated requests to the relevant authorities for ensuring a proper drainage system in the area had fallen on deaf ears.

They also complained that the largest commercial centre of the region had literally turned into a place of filth and garbage.

The traders said they brought the issue to the notice of the local administration many times, but to no avail.

They also criticised local MNA Shahabuddin Khan for not fulfilling the promise of providing funds for the improvement of sewerage and sanitation conditions in the bazaar.

The traders said the local administration should take corrective steps without delay to keep them from further losses.

They also demanded the federal government provide compensation to over 3,000 people, whose shops were destroyed during the fight against militants in 2009.
