Port Qasim Road

2016-04-07
PORT Qasim is a very important port-cumindustrial area in Pakistan, especially after the LNG terminal and a number of new LNGand coal-based power plants are coming up. One can see huge activities, especially in the eastern industrial zone.

The Port Qasim Industrial Area will play a pivotal role in industrial development in times to come.

In any developedcountry, roadslinking such an important industrial area to the main city have equal importance. It is really unfortunate that the road between Port Qasim and Karachi airport have been in bad shape for quite a long time.

This state of affairs is troubling foreign investors who travel on this road to the port area. Also, a huge number of workers of different industrial concerns travel on a daily basis and face all sorts of mental and physical stress on the road instead of having a peaceful and pleasant drive.

These industrial concerns pay huge taxes to the exchequer and their employees at least deserve a hassle-free travel back home. Similarly, all sorts of industrial goods transportation from and to Port Qasim is affected badly owing to the poor condition of the road.

Unfortunately, the association of industries in Port Qasim has failed to play any role in getting this road repaired.

Recently three new overhead bridges have been built by the Sindh government on this road at the airport crossing, Malir Halt and Malir 15.

This development has benefited commuters only, but the condition of the remaining 10-12km up to the Port Qasim crossing needs immediate attention. The road is badly damaged at several places, and needs repairs also, while better traffic control is needed at the Bhains Colony crossing.
