Jinnah doctors mount pressure for guard`s sacking

By Our Staff Reporter 2017-04-07
LAHORE: Tension continued to escalate at the Jinnah Hospital on Thursday as administration of the allied infirmary, the Allama Iqbal Medical College (AIMC), could not complete a probe into an incident involving some doctors and a security guard near the principal`s office two days ago.

Also attended by some Young Doctors Association`s Jinnah Hospital chapter office-bearers, a meeting of AIMC demonstrators decided that they would neither treat any medico-legal patient nor conduct autopsies till the guard is terminated from service.

Security guards, clerical and janitorial staff besides some para-medical employees have been partially performing their duties since Tuesday noon when a group of young doctors gave security guard Waqas a sound thrash-ing for demanding parking slip from one of their colleagues at the AIMC main gate.

A delegation of Jinnah Hospital chapter of All Pakistan Clerks Association (APCA) called on Prof Zia who reportedly refused to listen to them and suspended the guard from service.

APCA`s Jinnah Hospital chapter President Lala Aslam said that Prof Zia was not impartial. `The principal has taken no action against Dr Ghulam Ghazi from forensic sciences department and the YDA activists who severely tortured Waqas, who had to go to the Lahore General Hospital for treatment as Jinnah doctors refused to even provide him first-aid,` said Mr Aslam.

Prof Zia was not available for comment. However, an administrative officer of the Jinnah Hospital said a committee headed by senior doctor Prof Dr Arif Siddiqui was probing into the matter.
