School fees

2015-05-07
IT is a matter of concern that private schools allover the country chargefeesfor summer vacations. This is a matter of concern for inflation-stricken parents. The schools have started collecting in advance fees for June and July, with no regulatory check in operation.

Government-controlled schools have failed to meet the expectations of parents for providing quality education.

The discouraging environment in government schools forces relatively rich parents to send their children to private schools, though at the cost of their personal needs.

Article 25-A of the Constitution guarantees free and compulsory education.

Although the article applies to governmentrun institutions only, the regulatory framework to control private schools should introduce some checks and balances to allow private schools to charge reasonably.

Moreover, the government should ensure that no fee is charged for vacations.
