Skill, sensitivity blended at Degree Show 2016

LAHORE: An amalgamation of skill and sensitivity with bold rendering of a vast variety of subjects at the Degree Show 2016 of Textile Design and Interior Design Departments from Lahore College for Women University attracted a large number of art enthusiasts and students from art institutions.

The five-day show was inaugurated by LCWU Vice-Chancellor Dr Uzma Qureshi at the Alhamra Art Center, The Mall, on Monday.

It features diverse approaches of studentstotheirthesisprojectsaccordingto their own perception and vision.

Its salient aspects were the creativity, innovation and research the students conducted on their works. Around 40 students through their works tried to explore a number of diverse subjects from Balochi culture to Walt Disney and from rock music to pop art.

The whole show carried a stamp of exclusiveness since students had conceptualized their textile works approaching innovative ideas and conducting extensive research on their projects.

Aiza Shaukat, a textile department student, chose Chinese Bamboos Legacy as her project title.

She said since the Chinese bambooshad a great cultural identification in Chinese architectural art, therefore, inspired by Rebecca Raees paintings on Chinese bamboos, she had made them in dry brush technique on different fabrics.

Her work was innovative and inspiring.

Syeda Namwer Ali tried her hand on a common problem of present day society called depression.

Through her installation having dreamy lights effect, she tried to explore the relationship between depression and art, as to her, relationships between depression and art are many and varied.

Javeria Masood`s thesis was based an innovative topic of the garden insects. To Ms Javeria little is known about insects, she chose honey bee, spiders and ants to renect the beauty of nature through insects.

Mishal Chishti explored the beauty of Russian art and craft through Russian dolls. Anam Attique`s project was inspired by Masjid Wazir Khan`s decorative motifs.

Dur-e-Shahwar through her textile project explored the native American Indian art, the visual art of aboriginal inhabitants of America.

Humaira Ramzan`s topic was Sindhi culture in relation with Indus civilization. Sania Khan had an interesting topic of optical illusion.
