Demo against non-payment of salaries

TOBA TEK SINGH: Municipal committee employees and pensioners took out a protest demonstration on the second consecutive day on Tuesday over nonpayment of their salaries and pensions for the last two months.

They marched from Municipal Complex to Shahbaz Chowk and went to District Government Complex. They wanted to go to the DC office to meet him but police shut the main gate and the protesters were forced to stay outside in severe hot weather.

They could not meet the DC.

The protesters said they were unable to purchase the commodities for Sehr and Iftar during Ramazan while Eidul Fitr was also approaching and they did not have any money to prepare for it. They warned that if their salaries and pensions were not released by Wednesday (today), they would locl( the offices of municipal committee. They also warned of cutting off water supply to the city and boycotting cleaning ofroads and streets if the issue lingered on.

MC Chairman Chaudhry Ghulam Nabi Mithu Gujjar said thecommittee`s assistant director (audit) was transferred three months back due to which the salaries as well as bills of the municipal staff were not being prepared. He said a number of other financial issues were also being faced by his office for the same reason.

Mr Gujjar said he had repeatedly written to the provincial authorities for the appointment on the vacant post but no attention had been paid to his requests.

CONDEMNATION: The Veterinary Doctors Association (VDA) district chapter has condemned Pirmahal assistant commissioner for alleged misbehaviour and insult of a doctor during his visit to the Sindhillianwali Ramazan Bazaar.

In a meeting, presided over by VDA President Dr Muhammad Nawaz Butt, a resolution was passed in which the association demanded action against the AC for misbehaving with Dr Zafar Iqbal and an inquiry into the incident. They also demanded transfer of the AC if the probe showed him guilty.

They warned of closing down slaughterhouses and meat stalls in Ramazan Bazaars if their demand was not accepted.
