CHITRAL: The elders of Laspur valley here have demanded judicial inquiry into the suicide of a local college girl over the alleged sexual assault.

Former union nazim Mohammad Qayyum Shah, Sher Guli, Sharafuddin and Daulat Ali Khan told reporters here that in Dec 2015, a girl of Harchin village enrolled in the intermediate class of a private college was sexually assaulted by a sweeper of the adjoining government school when she was on the way to her campus.

They said the alleged assaulter fled afterward.

The elders said the girl reported the incident to the school`s administration and that a teacher, who was reportedly the witness to the incident, took her to a nearby police checkpoint and got an FIR registered against the suspect.

They said on Aug 6, the girl came to the school, protested `denial` of justice, especially due to the teacher`s refusal to testify in the case, and ended life by drinking mouse poison.

The elders complained the police neither engaged the `witness` teacher nor registered a `strong` case and thus, helping the suspectgo scot-free.

They also criticised the education department for sparing the school`s administration despite failure to shift the girl to the hospital after suicide on campus.

The elders also demanded that the chief justice of the Peshawar High Court order judicial inquiry into the matter.
