ISLAMABAD, Dec 6: Renowned human rights activist, the late Sheikh Asad Rahman, spent his entire life for the service of humanity and his death is a great loss for the whole nation.

This was stated by participants at a memorial service organised by Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI), on Thursday.

Speaking to the participants, Asad Rahman`s wife, Tanveer Asad, said that her husband`s goal was to struggle for the rights of the people, which he achieved through a continues struggle, till death.

The son, Mehmood Asad, saidthat his father was a loving and caring person, who regardless of his busy schedule would always take time out for the family and give special attention to his granddaughter.

Human rights activist, Tahira Abdullah, called him the `symbol of continuous struggle` who despite being the son of a chief justice, went to far-flung area`s in Balochistan and fought for civil justice, equality and legitimate rights of the oppressed.

Poet and social activist, Harris Khalique, said that society cannot produce people of such character and Asad`s death is a great loss for the country.

Dr Manzoor Ahmed, DeputyExecutive Director of Sungi, shared Asad`s commitment and passion for work and his cause that despite being seriously ill, due to a heart attack, he used to advise him regarding work.

He suggested carrying forward his mission, as the best way of paying him a tribute.

Dr Abid Suleri, Executive Director, SDPI talked about the times when Asad helped him in research work, regarding Balochistan.

Aimal Khan moderated the proceedings and maintained that Asad Rahman`s sudden demise was a great loss, not only for his family but also for the oppressed people of Pakistan.
