Syllabi to embrace human rights as subject

LAHORE: Punjab is going to introduce human rights into syllabus of educational institutions for sensitising the youth to the issue.

`We`re all set to include into syllabus the subject of human rights in colleges and universities af ter introducing the same in schools so as to create awareness among our youth about the importance of each other`s rights,` Punjab Minister for Human Rights and Minorities Affairs Khalil Tahir Sandhu said at a seminar at Lahore Garrison University on Tuesday.

Vice Chancellor Ubaid Bin Zikrya, Dean Social Sciences Muhammad Tahir, Registrar Bashir Mahmood Bajwa, educationalist Younis Khushi, lecturers and students attended the seminar.

Mr Sandhu said human rights and minorities affairs department had established complaint cells where any citizen could lodge complaints about violation of human rights.

He said the provincial government had also taken concrete steps for legislation on human rights particularly for elimination of child labour and harassment of women.

He said the government would observe international human rights day on Dec 10 and scholars, intellectuals, academia, politicians and prominent persons from all segments of society would be invited to the main ceremony to be held at Alhamra Hall.
