UAF, Canadian varsity launch joint degree programme

FAISALABAD: The University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) and Dalhousie University, Canada, have jointly launched BS (Plant Sciences) degree programme.

The launch ceremony took place at UAF where Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad, Dr G Christopher Cutler from the Dalhousie University and others spoke.

Dr Ahmed said the university was networking with foreign institutions for research and education in credits transfer programme.

He said students of BSc (Hons) Agriculture Sciences with a two-year FSc Pre-Agriculture could grab the opportunity to study at Dalhousie University for their final two years after meeting the criteria of a minimum 3.0 CGPA and other requirements.

But the students would have to pay the two-year degreeexpenses themselves.

Meanwhile, hundreds of students have completed the two-year FSc Pre-Agriculture degree, which is not yet approved by the Faisalabad Board of Intermediate and Secondary E ducation. The university administration said they were in contact with the Inter Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC).

Dr Ahmed said student exchange programmes were also being strengthened to get benefit from each other.

He a said trained and educated nation guaranteed a bright future that would help uplift the economy and alleviate poverty.

Dr G Christopher Cutler said Canada housed some topranked universities providing quality education and producing trained manpower. He said Dalhousie University stood amongst top 300 universities of the world in different rankings.

Faculty of Agriculture Dean Prof Dr Muhammad Amjad and Dr Qamar Zaman also spoke on the occasion.
