Doctors demand service structure

2016-12-07
PESHAWAR: The doctors have criticised provincial government for its failure to materialise its commitment regarding approval of services structure for them.

Addressing a news conference at Peshawar Press Club on Tuesday, Provincial Doctor Association president Dr Ameer Taj also opposed appointment of retired doctors on key posts on ad hoc basis in health department.

He demanded of the provincial government to implementation the proposed service structure for the doctors otherwise they would be left with the only option to stage protests across the province.

Flanked by other-ofEce bearers of the association including its general secretary Dr Roman Khan, Dr Fazal Manan, Dr Qazi Amjad and Dr Sajjad Yousufzai, Dr Ameer said that successive provincial governments failed to fulfil the longstanding demand of the doctors regarding service structure.

He said that the incumbent provincial government had also committed to resolve the long awaited issue of doctors but to no avail. He said that doctors were playing vital role in provision of healthcare to people in government-run hospitals across the province but their services were not acknowledged.

Dr Ameer said that the PTI-led provincial government was also using delaying tactics in implementation of the proposed service structure for doctors despite its assurance. He criticised the Medical Teaching Institutes Reforms Act, saying the health professional allowance announced by provincial government under the new law was also delayed. The PDA chief demanded of the provincial government to take prompt steps for enforcement of the proposed service structure for doctors and amend the MTI Act. He asked government to release health professional allowance at the earliest to remove unrest among the doctors. Bureau Report
