YDA plans drive for FPGMI affiliation

2016-01-08
LAHORE: The Young Doctors Association, Punjab, has announced protest drive followed by a symbolic hunger strike from Jan 13 for not affiliating the Federal Post Graduate Medical Institute (FPGMI) with the medical university.

Talking to media men at the Shaikh Zayed Hospital on Thursday, YDA`s SZH chapter President Dr Ehsan Lali said the Punjab government was defying decisions of the court of law, parliament and the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council in this case.

Dr Lali said the three government institutions had categorically declared that the medical college should be affiliated with the medical university only.

He said recently the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulation and Coordination had denotified seven universities for not having their constituent medical or dental colleges. The medical and dental colleges were directed to get them affiliated with the medical universities only.

Dr Lali lamented that all the universities obeyed the orders of the federal government except the Punjab University as the FPGMI was still affiliated with this non-medical varsity.

`We have taken up this matter several times with the authorities concerned, including SZH admin and the health department, but no seriousness has been shown so far,` the YDA president said.

He said the YDA had suggested the government to take steps for the affiliation of the college with the King Edward Medical University.Staff ReporterLAHORE: The Young Doctors Association, Punjab, has announced protest drive followed by a symbolic hunger strike from Jan 13 for not affiliating the Federal Post Graduate Medical Institute (FPGMI) with the medical university.
