SUKKUR: A jirga (tribal court) held in Nasrullah Bijarani village near Tangwani town of Kandhkot-Kashmore district on Saturday slapped a Rs1.3 million fine on a man after finding him guilty of murder.

Qadir Bukhsh Malik was killed during an armed clash in the village over the ownership of a fish pond about six months ago. The murder led to a series of attacks involving members of the Malik and Jafferi communities in the area.

The jirga, presided over by a tribal elder, Shahzain Bijarani, heard both sides and found Abdul Rehman Jafferi guilty of the murder.

Accepting the jirga ruling, the Jafferi community paid Rs200,000 to the aggrieved side on the spot and undertook to pay off the remaining fine/compensation amount within the next three months. Later, the two sides declared an end to their hostility.
