Safi elders asked to take action against facilitators of militants

GHALANAI: The local administration and security forces have asked Safi tribe in Mohmand Agency to take action against facilitators of militants or face action.
Addressing a jirga here on Monday, Assistant Political Agent Haseebur Rehman warned the elders of Safi tribe to fulfil their territorial collective responsibility and took stern action against militants` facilitators in their area.
Besides officials of political administration, the jirga was attended by elders of Qandhari, Shinwari, Masood and Gurbaz tribes.
The ofñcial said that at least 90 incidents of blasts of improvised explosive devices occurred during e one year in Mohmand Agency. He said that out of those 37 blasts occurred in Safi tehsil alone.
He said that it was a matter of grave concern for the administration. He asked the tribal elders to take action against militants and their facilitators and stop blats of IEDs in their respective areas.
Mr Rehman said that Safi elders should shoulders their collective responsibility so that they could launch houseto-house search operation in the area to Bush outfacilitators of militants form the region.
The of ficial said that fine would be imposed on the tribe if a blast occurred in its territory. He added that tribal elders should write to the administration if they could not fulfil their collective responsibility so that the authorities could conduct operation in those areas with the help of security forces.
The official said that all incentives of Safi tribe would be stopped if it failed to shoulder the collective responsibility.
The tribal elders assured the administration and security forces of their full cooperation in maintenance of law and order in their areas. They said that they would hold jirgas with others elders at village level during the next two days and then inform the administration.
The elders said that they would fight against militants and support security forces in the operation. They said that strict action would be taken against those tribesmen, who were sheltering anti-state elements.
