Strike against doctor`s abduction continues

PESHAWAR/MINGORA, Dec 7: Doctors at Peshawar`s teaching hospitals on Saturday continued protest against the abduction of Professor Amjad Taqweem and decided to continue protesting until the senior physician was recovered.

Professor Amjad Taqweem of Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) was kidnapped in Hayatabad on Tuesday night.

Doctors of Lady Reading Hospital, Khyber Teaching Hospital and Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC) have been on strike since.

According to representatives of doctors, a meeting will be held today (Sunday) to finalise strategy to press the government for recovering Dr Amjad.

Provincial Doctors Association (PDA) President Dr Shah Sawar Khan said doctors weren`t satisfied with the government`s efforts for the recovery of the kidnapped physician.

He demanded formation of a group of government officials, including members of the Governor`s Secretariat, to ensure recovery of Dr Amjad.

Also in the day, doctors at Saidu Group of Teaching Hospital and Central Hospital in Mingora went on a strike to protest the growing kidnappings of physicians in the province, especially that of senior surgeon Professor Amjad Taqweem in Peshawar.
