Eid Milad security plan for Peshawar finalised

Bureau Report 2014-01-09
PESHAWAR: Keeping in view the current delicate situation, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has made an elaborate plan to ensure protection of public life and property on Eid Miladun Nabi.

The provincial Home and Tribal Affairs Department on Wednesday issued the plan.

Under the plan, routes of traditional Eid Miladun Nabi processions and sensitive areas in the city have been identified for security checks, while police will prevent subversive and antistate activities, examine the way violence occurred in the past, arrange video recording of processions and establish dedicated control rooms with communication maps.

The law-enforcement agencies will comb and sweep procession routes in sensitive areas for explosive devices, while security equipment i.e. scanners, close-circuit television cameras andwalkthrough gates will be installed on the procession routes.

Besides, their personnel will also get metal detectors to bodysearch participants.

Examination of procession routes by sniffer dogs and their technical sweeping will be carried out if need be.

Law-enforcement agencies will take steps to protect mosques and shrines, preempt suicide attacks at sensitive places, and prevent the possible poisoning of `niaz` `sabeel` and drinking water on procession routes.

Under the plan, volunteers will be mobilised, while efforts to trace missing militants and proclaimed offenders will be stepped out.

The police and district administrations will make emergency evacuation plan, plug roads and streets leading to procession routes, develop SOPs to handle postEid Miladun Nabi situation, and check the availability of hate material, display of arms and tinted glasses, and chalking on walls.
