KARAK: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf and Jamaat-i-Islami have agreed in principle to form an electoral alliance for the upcoming local bodies` elections in the district, and decided to field consensus candidates at union council, tehsil and district levels.

Sources said a decision to this effect was taken about ten days during a meeting between the PTI and JI teams. PTI team was led by district president Gul Sahib Khan and that of JI by its district president Maulana Samiur Rehman. The meeting agreed to field consensus candidates in the upcoming local bodies` election, said the sources.

Both the parties, the sources said, had agreed to make seat to seat adjustment at the district, tehsil and union council levels.

They added that both the sides were positive to take the alliances forward as they had a coalition government in the province.

The sources maintained that the JI was interested in fielding candidates in union councils of Isak Countra, Jandri and Mithakhel in Karak tehsil, Daggar Nari and Jatta Ismael Khel UCs in Banda Daud Shah tehsil and Chokara and Jehangeri UCs of Takht-e-Nusrati tehsil.

They added that the remaining union coun-cils of the district would be given to PTI, saying that the tehsil and district level adjustments would also be completed at the next round of discussions to be held very soon.

The sources said that although JI had not yet held negotiations with the chief minister`s advisor on prisons Malik Qasim Khan Khattak regarding the proposed alliance, PTI leaders would hold negotiations with him (Khattak) to complete the process.

The sources claimed that the seat adjustment would be completed till January 20 and afterward both the parties would launch the election campaign. They said that the JI had already selected its candidates for various seats at union council level.
