Malala calls for joint struggle to educate everyone

HYDERABAD: Youngest NobellaureateMalalaYousafzai, speaking through a video link from the United Kingdom to the participants in a programme held at the Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET) on Tuesday, stressedthe need for educating children, especially girls, to ensure justice to women.

The programme was organised at the university`s auditorium to observe International Women`s Day.

Ms Yousafzai appealed to all segments of society to join hands in ensuring high standards of education in Pakistan and wagea struggle to educate people.

Without this, she said, the country could not attain progress, development and prosperity.

She said she herself overpowered fear and determined to get education. `It is my dream that all girls are educated and my dream will come true if everyone of us works in this direction,` she added.At the programme, the foundation of `Society for Women Engineers` was also laid. Prof Dr Khadija Qureshi was declared the convener of the new society.

Speaking to the audience, MUET vice chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Aslam Ugaili said the university was the first in the country to have adopted the policy of gender equality.
