KARACHI: Jinnah Government College Karachi lifted the Red Bull Campus Cricket Tournament title as they defeated the University of Central Punjab Lahore (UCPL) by 17 runs in the final here at the DHA Moin Khan Academy on Monday.

Slow left-arm spinner Mohammad Waqas starred for Jinnah Government College, capturing three wickets for 17 runs besides taking a vital catch.

By virtue of winning the event, Jinnah College qualified to represent Pakistan in the World Campus Cricket Championship, to be held in India in October.

Sent in to bat first, Jinnah College posted 119-7 in the allotted 20 overs. Shahzar Hasan top-scored with 53 off 50 balls striking five boundaries and one six. Left-arm spinner Ali Tipu Sultan ended with fine figures of 4-22 in four overs.

UCPL, in reply, could muster 102 before being dismissed in 19.2 overs. Taimur Sultan smashed a superb 49-ball 54 featuring four boundaries and brace of sixes.

But his effort could not save UCPL from defeat.
