Chandka teachers want promotion notified

By Our Correspondent 2015-09-09
LARKANA: The Chandka Teachers Association (CTA) and the management of the Shaheed Mohtrma Benazir Bhutto Medical University (SMBBMU) have locked horns over the issue of notification of 40 selected senior faculty members` promotion.

It was learnt that SMBBMU Vice Chancellor Prof Ghulam Asghar Channa talked to Universities and Boards Secretary Iqbal Durrani to resolve the issue.

The CTA in its meeting held at the Chandlca Medical College on Tuesday discussed the situation arising out of what they termed unjustified approach of the university management on the pretext of a ban imposed by the Sindh government.

Dr Shaista Abro, vice chairperson of the CTA, chaired the meeting which urged the vice chancellor to issue a notification till Sept 9 to avert increasing unrest among the senior faculty of the university. Early issuance of the notification would save the university from unrest on the campus, the CTA in its press release said.

Speaking at the meeting and talking to Dawn, Assistant Registrar Fahad Siyal said the Sindh Government during the ban period had appointed Dr Amanuallah Joklyo, as pro-vice chancellor of SMBBMU on Sept 1 and Vice Chancellor Prof Ghulam Asghar Channa allowed him to join on Sept 3.

Demanding that the Sindh government honour its notification, he asked why professors, associate professors and assistant professors were not given orders for the elevated posts, though they had gone through the interviews held on Aug 8 and which were duly approved by the syndicate in its Aug 18 meeting. However, the fate of qualified and promoted teachers hung in the balance as the Sindh chief minister, who is the competent authority to give permission for issuing such a notification, was abroad, sources said.

The Larkana chapter of the Pakistan Medical Association has endorsed the CTA call and called for early issuance of notification of 40 senior faculty members. The delay could hamper academic activities at the campus and hospitals attached with Chandka Medical College, the PMA threatened.
