MANY housing societies are located along the perimeter of Alamgir Road and its close vicinity in Bahadurabad in Karachi. A haven of community living, it was a quiet, peaceful residential locality once upon a time, but not anymore.

This locality has been ravaged by unplanned commercialisation, which has turned this area into a seedy neighbourhood. The maladies that affiictthe area which includes Kokan Housing Society, Faran Society, Traders Housing Society, Teachers` Cooperative Housing Society and Delhi Mercantile Muslim Cooperative Housing Society.

The foremost issues afflicting our locality are dilapidated roads and overflowing gutters. There are large craters on Alamgir Road and Haider All Road which have become main thoroughfares for traffic which is very heavy during rush hour.

The plethora of restaurants and fast food outlets that do a roaring business on Alamgir Road and the vicinity of Bahadurabad have also put tremendous pressure on the sewerage system. So much so that gutters perennially overflow on Haider Ali Road opposite Kokan Society park.

The road has a descending gradient from this point towards Hill Park and the overflowing gutter flows downhill for days on end. The flowing filthy water and stench make lives miserable for the residents.

The restaurants on Alamgir Road have put up generators on the footpath which hampers smooth traf fic flow and makes residents lives miserable.

The civic authorities are requested to order the clearing and repair of bloclced sewerage lines, and also order the commercial establishments that have placed generators on the roads and footpaths to relocate them in their premises.
