Girl students get transport facility after protest

CHITRAL: The protest by students of Government Girls College Booni, hailing from Reshun and its adjacent villages Shogram and Zait, bore fruit here on Thursday as the administration accepted their demand for provision of bus.

Hundreds of the girl students of the three villages blocl(ed the busy Chitral-Booni Road, connecting upper and lower Chitral, by erecting barricades on it and staging sit-in for seven hours.

As a result of the protest, a large number of passengers including patients, women and children remained stranded on the road.

The students announced to continue their protest till acceptance of their demand.

They made it clear to the government that the strike would be called off only when a bus was driven to the venue and its keys were handed over to them.

Addressing on the occasion, the leaders of the protesting students castigated the government for not restoring the bus service, which had been discontinued three months ago, to the villages forcing them to cover a distance of 24 kilometres on foot daily.

They said that after the expiry of the threeday deadline they would go to nay extent to get their demand accepted as their studies were badly affected because they remained absent from the college in the absence of conveyance facility.

They chanted slogans against the government and the elected representatives from the area including MNA Shahzada Iftikharuddin, MPA Sardar Hussain and MPA Fozia.

The strike was called off when the assistant commissioner of Mastuj, Minhasuddin, reached the spot with the bus after making it sure that the pick and drop service would be restored from the very next day.

HUNTER DEAD: A young man was killed when his gun went off accidentally in Harchin village of Laspur valley here on Thursday.

An official of Mastuj police station said that Syed Jamaluddin Shah, 25, was hunting birds when his gun went off accidentally. The deceased had recently got a master degree from the university.

The official said that inquiry was initiated to ascertainfactsabout theincident.

The parents of the deceased buried him without carrying out postmortem of the dead body.
