PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Engr Iqbal Zafar Jhagra on Tuesday stressed the need for promoting education for socioeconomic development of the country.

He was speaking at a meeting of the Senate of the University of Swabi in his capacity as the chancellor of the varsity at the Governor House here. He said it was imperative to make the education system in accordance with the modern day challenges.

The meeting approved budget 2016-17 for the university, while vice chancellor Dr Noor Jehan briefed the meeting on performance of the varsity.

The governor said institutions of higher learning should promote research-based education to prepare the students to contribute towards the development and prosperity of the country keeping in view the present-day challenges.-APP
