ISLAMABAD: A parliamentary committee was informed on Tuesday that a mosque had been built on a plot reserved for the construction of a school in Sector G-13.

The National Assembly Standing Committee on Housing and Works, which met with MNA Haji Mohammad Akram Ansari in the chair, was told by officials of the ministry of housing and works that some unauthorised mosques had been built in both the G-13 and G-14 sectors.

It may be mentioned that G-13 was developed in 2007 but so far the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) has failed to construct even a single schoolin the sector. The parliamentary committee directed the ministry of housing to inform CADD and FDE that if they did not want to construct schools on the reserved plots, some of the plots should be auctioned for the establishment of private schools there.

The committee expressed dissatisfaction over the progress of the Masjid committee constituted for the retrieval ofland encroached orillegally occupiedfor the construction of mosques in G-13 and G-14.

The committee also expressed dissatisfaction on actions taken against encroachers in the two sectors by the Federal Government Employees Housing Foundation (FGEHF).

The committee directed the FGEHF to place lists of allottees in sector F-14 and F-15 on its website to ensure transparency in the allotment process.

The committee also directed for action against encroachments and non-conforming use of residential and commercial properties in all the sectors.

Discussing the progress on the preparation of lists of membership in housing projects in Sector F-14 and F-15, the committee directed the FGEHF for ensuring transparency by displaying lists as per laid down criteria and quotas for various categories of employees of the federal government, constitutional bodies and media etc., on the website of the foundation.

A representative of the FGEHF informed the committee that more than 79,000 federal government employees and others had been registered as members of the foundation from April 2015 to May 2016.

However, as per the instruction of the committee, quota-wise and category-wise lists for the allotment of plots in sector F-14 and F-15 had been prepared and consent letters issued to members in categories 1 to 3.

The committee constituted a four-member subcommittee under the convenership of MNA Rajab Ali Khan Baloch to probe allotments of houses made by estate officers and deputy secretary (estate) of the ministry of housing in contravention of rules and the failure of the estate office to retrieve government accommodations occupied by encroachers, trespassers and retired government employees.

The subcommittee was directed to complete the tasl< within 30 days.
