Governor links socioeconomic progress to education

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Engr Iqbal Zafar Jhagra on Tuesday stressed the need for promoting education for socioeconomic development of the country.

He was speaking at a meeting of the Senate of the University of Swabi in his capacity as the chancellor of the varsity at the Governor House here.

He said it was imperative to make the education system in accordance with the modern day challenges.

The meeting approved budget 2016-17 for the university, while vice chancellor Dr Noor Jehan briefed the meeting on performance of the varsity.

The governor said institutions of higher learning should promote research-based education to prepare the students to contribute towards the development and prosperity of the country keeping in view the present-day challenges.

With quality education imparted to youth, our nation will be able to come at a par with the socio economically developed countries of the world.

Indeed the universities can play an immensely vital role in creating cream of the nation by providing quality education to pupils, he noted.

Mr Jhagra asked the university administration to ensure utilisation of funds with transparency and in accordance with the financial action plan.

The meeting beside others was also attended by adviser to the chief minister on higher education Mushtaq Ahmed Ghani, secretary higher education department and representatives of Higher Education Commission. APP
