Peace volunteer injured in Bajaur blast

KHAR, Dec 8: A member of village defence committee was injured in a remote controlled blast in Salarzai tehsil of Bajaur Agency on Saturday night.

The residents of the area said that Abdul Wadood was going to his home from the nearby market when a roadside explosive device, planted by unidentified miscreants, went off with a bang.

He was wounded critically in the blast, they said, adding that he was taken to agency headquarters hospital in Khar for treatment.

They said that the injured was in serious condition.

Tribal people and volunteers of local village defence committee reached the spot after the incident and started search operation in the area.

Meanwhile, an official said that Bajaur Levies with the help of local peace committee arrested several suspects during a joint search operation in the area.

Also, a man drowned in the Barang River when rope of a locally made chair-lift broke in Memola area of Bajaur Agency on Sunday.

Eyewitness said that Janat Shah was crossing the river through the locally made chair-lift when its rope broke down. He fell in to the river, they added.

The local people rushed the site after the incident and started rescue work, however, they could not fish out his body from the river.

The tribal people expressed concern over delay in reconstruction of bridge over the river that was destroyed during floods in 2009.
