Eight villagers held in police raids

SUKKUR: The Ghotki police along with Punjab police raided Sohrab Loond village near Khanpur Mahar town of Ghotki district and took away eight people, members of several Loond families, late on Wednesday evening.

Villagers said that police personnel carried out a house-to-house search after cordoning off the village. They picked up Sain Dino, Abdul Jabbar, Abdul Mujeeb, Hanif, Sikandar, Ilyas, Israr and Razzak and took them away by mobile vans.

Women of the affected families Mai Gulan Sohrab, Marie Sain Dino and others proceeded to Khanpur Mahar to hold a protest against the police action. The said the police did not informed them about the charges against their detained men. They claimed that the police also beat up inmates of the raided houses and alleged that they took away valuables including gold jewellery during the action.

They said the police were not even telling them where the detained people had been taken to.

They urged the authorities concerned to look into the matter as they feared for the lives of their family members.
