Parents warned against refusing to vaccinate children

TIMERGARA: The district administration has said that legal action will be taken against those parents, who refuse to administer anti-polio drops to their children during the three-day special drive to be started from December 19.

The warning was issued by Additional Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Irshad during a meeting held at the DC Jirga Hall here on Thursday.

District Health Officer Dr Shaukat Ali, Dr Shahid, Dr Junald,Assistant CommissionerMohammad AyazMohmand, Assistant Commissioner Jamalud Din, heads of government departments and officials of health and police departments attended the meeting.

The meeting was informed that a three-day anti-polio campaign would be started in the district from December 19 for which 899 teams were formed.

ADC Irshad expressed anger over negligence of health officials during the previous campaign in some union councils of the district. He said that 198 area chiefs appointed for the campaign. He said that 280,420 children below five years would be vaccinated during the drive.

The meeting was informed that provincial government had taken anti-polio drive very serious and no negligence on part of the officials concerned would be tolerated.

Mr Irshad also appealed to religious scholars, journalists, teachers, traders and local government representatives to cooperate with district administration and health department in making the drive a success.

Also in the day, Deputy Commissioner Irfanullah Wazir distributed sports kits among eight registered cricket teams of the district after inaugurating district cricket tournament.

Sarhad Rural Support Programme (SRSP) has arranged the event. A function in this regard was addressed by Irfanullah Wazir, district nazim Mohammad Rasool Khan and others.

They said that several cricket players from Dir were representing national and provincial teams. They said that arranging sports festivals, peace and youth expos were signs of peace in the district.
