LAHORE: A cashier at a bakery was allegedly shot dead over ‘resistance’ here at Umer Chowk in Green Town on Thursday morning.

Three unidentified suspects riding a motorbike came to the Umer Chowk branch of Gourmet Bakers, snatched the gun from the guard and two of them entered the shop. They held Abid Mahmood, 23, of Depalpur (Okara) hostage and demanded cash.

Abid told them that the cash had been deposited with the main branch of the bakery. The suspects got enraged, shot at him and managed their escape.

Abid was rushed to hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

Police shifted the body for autopsy and registered a case on the complaint of victim’s uncle Abdul Majeed.

Saddar division Investigation SP Atif Nazir said police had collected CCTV footage of the incident and set up pickets in different areas to arrest the suspects.

To a query that the Saddar division has the highest crime rate, he said: “It’s one of the largest divisions in the city and Kasur and Sheikhupura districts fall in its jurisdiction.”
