Nust, Numi observe National Green Day

he National University of Sciences and Technology (Nust) and the National University of Modern Languages (Numl) observed National Green Day on Thursday and conducted plantation drives on their campuses.

The Green Pakistan Programme was initiated following the directions of the prime minister for reinstating forestry in Pakistan and countering the harmful effects of climate change.

Nust Rector Naveed Zaman inaugurated the green campaign by planting a guava tree. He was accompanied by university officials, faculty members and students.

The rector said gardening and horticultural activities were important for conserving a green environment and directed the horticulture staff to plant trees during the campaign.

He also encouraged students and faculty members to take part in the drive and plant trees in the homes and work places and that the saplings would be provided by the university.

The rector, students and staff of the university also held a Green Day Walk around the campus.

Meanwhile, Rector Numl Ziauddin Najam inaugurated the Green Pakistan Programme at the university by planting a sapling in front of the Ibn-i-Khuldun Block.

Numl Director General Brigadier Riaz Ahmed Gondal, Director Administration Brigadier Ziaul Hassan Sahi, registrars, deans, directors, heads of departments and other officials were present on the occasion.
