Protesters seek arrest of woman`s killer

MANSEHRA: The local people and family members of a killed woman blocked Balakot Road to lodge their protest against police for not arresting her killer.

The protesters alleged that the woman identified as Jamila was shot dead by a drug peddler. They placed the body on the road in Sandysar area and demanded immediate arrest of the killer.

The angry protesters blocked Mansehra-Balakot section of Mansehra-Naran-Jalkhad Road to all kinds of traffic for more than an hour.

The family members of the deceased woman said that police had arrested the alleged killer in a case of narcotics smuggling last week.

After his release, he went to Jamila`s house and fired at her suspecting thatshe had informed police about his illegal business, they added.

The road was reopened to traffic after a police party reached there and assured the protesters that they would arrest the alleged killer within 24 hours.

RATES: The local consumer protection council will fix rates of tailors and barbers and cab fares before the start of Ramazan.

In this connection a meeting of the council was held here on Monday with its chairman Shahjahan Khan Swati in the chair.

Assistant Commissioner Dr Qasim Ali Khan, who is secretary general of the council, briefed the meeting regarding the action taken by the administration in the last month.

Mr Swati said that council moved consumer court against increase in prices of CNG by the owners. The prices were reversed by the court, he added.`It is a great achievement of the council,` Mr Swati said. He urged the members of the council to provide relief to people.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Qasim said that the council raided various shops in the city and its suburbs and confiscated narcotics.

He said that weight of bread was increased to 180 grams after the flour prices were reduced in the district.

Sheraz Mehmood Qurashi diverted the attention of the council towards production of ghee from waste of chicken shops.

He said that the ghee made of chicken waste was highly unhygienic and causing diseases among people.

Tauseef Ahmad, the regional drug inspector, told the meeting that he ralded dozens of shops, selling spurious drugs.

He said that 13 medicine shops were sealed in the district.
