PESHAWAR: The internally displaced persons from Tirah valley of Khyber Agency on Monday protested outside the press club here, demanding of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan to ensure their early registration and rehabilitation.
The protesters held banners and placards inscribed with their demands and raised slogans for provision of ration, tents and other basic facilities.
The IDPs were led by Haji Iqbal Afridi of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, who blamed Fata Disaster Management Authority (FDMA) and political administration for delaying the return of IDPs to their homes. `Children are contracting different diseases in their camps in Peshawar and other settled areas of the province due to sizzling heat,` said Mr Afridi.
Mr Afridi demanded of thegovernor and President Mamnoon Hussain to take mercy on the people and order the relevant officials to take effective measures on emergency basis to repatriate the IDPs by ensuring their registration and giving them return package.
The PTI leader said that the Khyber Agency political agent and PDMA director general had recently announced that peace had been restored in Tirah valley and that all the IDPs residing in different camps would be facilitated to return to their homes, but they didn`t fulfill their promises.
`The two officials had also promised that the returning families would be provided Rs25,000 each, transportation, ration for six months and other requirements, but the people were still awaiting rehabilitation package,` he regretted.Bureau Report
