KHAIRPUR: Electricity supply to the Khairpur central jail was discontinued on Tuesday by the Sepco ofhcials concerned.

According to the Sepco officials, there is Rs22.5 million outstanding against the central jail and the suspension was due to non-payment of the dues.

In this connection, the jail officials told reporters that the jail administration had paid around Rs7.2 million to Sepco last month as partial payment against the outstanding dues, but the liability kept increasing due to an additional surcharge of Rs100,000 which was imposed every month.

Prisoners at the jail face extreme hardship due to the disconnection of electricity in such hot weather conditions.

They have warned that if the electricity supply is not restored, they would not go to the barracks.

Till filing of this report, electricity supply to the central jail on one of the two feeders was restored.
