RAWALPINDI: In a crackdown on wheelie, the police have put 14 motorcyclists behind bars after registration of cases against them, police said.

All of the arrests were made in the New Town area where they were doing wheelie despite the police warning of legal action.

City Police Officer Yousuf Ali Shahid said special squads had launched the crackdown after Sehri on Murree Road.

The CTO said traffic police squads had been posted at 6th road, Chandni Chowk and Committee chowk to check the wheelie.

All of those who were caught by police will be produced before the area magistrate who will decide their fate whether they were sent to jail or granted bail.

While commenting on the continuing dangerous activity of wheelie, a resident of the city said: `Since the practice is a crime, the local police should take action against those involved in wheelie.

`All of the modified motorbikes should be impounded and those automobile-workshops involved in modifying motorcycles should be checked,` he said.
