Protesting varsity employees seek regularisation

TIMERGARA: The contractual employees of Abdul Wali Khan University, Timergara campus staged a protest demonstration on Wednesday for regularisation of their services.

The protesters, led by Aziz Yousafzai, locked the offices of different departments and came on the road in front of the campus. Carrying placards, they chanted slogans against the provincial government and its higher education department.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Yousafzai and other protesters said that the contractual employees of the campus had been performing their duties for years.

They said that provincial government and its lawmakers wanted to recruit their blue eyed people on permanent basis.

They said that the contractual employees of the campus had the right to be regularised first as they had served the university for years. They also demanded of the provincial government to abolish the Universities` Act and pay hilly area and charcoal allowance to employees of the AWKU, Timergara campus. They threatened to extend their protest if their demands were not met.

WORKSHOP: A three-day training workshop on eradication of polio was held at University of Malakand in collaboration with the ministry of information and information communication technology (ICT).

Addressing the concluding session of the workshop, Dr Johar Ali Khan, the vice-chancellor of the university, said that Pakistan could not get a respectable place in the comity of nations till complete elimination of poliovirus from the country.

`If we don`t fight against pollo as a nation it can affect more and more people as pollo has been a fast spreading disease in Pakistan,` he said.

Experts from various universities, Dr Sabeehud Din, Dr Ajab Khan and Dr Junaid presented their research papers on polio and its prevention. The experts shed light on the importance of using information communication technology in the health sector, saying it helped in diagnosing a specific disease and its treatment.

TEACHERS: Prof Ihsanullah was elected president and Prof Jamshid Khan general secretary of Pakhtunkhwa College Teachers Association (PCTA) for postgraduate college Timergara.

Other office-bearers of the association will be nominated by the president and general secretary after consultation.
