LAHORE: The Information Technology University being run by the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) has started distribution of tablet computers among teachers of public sector schools under the E-learn Programme.

Under the programme, the government will distribute computers among teachers of several selected schools.

`The objective of the project is to end the traditional practices of imparting education on blackboards by replacing them with the big LED screens. Through these screens connected with the tablet computers, the teachers will be able to teach students in a digitalised manner,` PITB Chairman Omar Saif said while speaking at a ceremony held here to distribute tabs among 20 teachers of Gulshan-i-Ravi girls high school.

He said as many as 200 tabs would be distributed among teachers of eight selected schools of the province on Monday (today).

He said since the programme was a pilot project, it would be expanded to a number of schools subject to successful implementation.

`The tabs have the latest Android software designed by the PITB that will be helpful in imparting education,` he added.
