`Education key to development`

TAXILA: Education is a key to achieving sustainable development and prosperity of a country like Pakistan.

This was stated by senior British educationist David T.P Game while talking to newsmen here at Taxila Museum on Wednesday.

Irum Allauddin, director South Asia of David Game Group of Colleges and Secretary General, Gandhara Art and Culture Association Easter Park, was also present on the occasion.

Mr Game is the chairman of David Game College, which was established in 1974 and has branches in various cities of Pakistan including Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad.

He said a new branch of the college would be opened in Rawalpindi also.

He was of the view that education system in Pakistan was contingent on several factors, such as the existence of cost-effective schools, better curricula and awareness among parents, especially in rural areas, of the importance of education.

He stressed the need for improving the structure of Pakistan`s school system to discourage dropout as wellbeing of a nation came with education. `We firmly believe that the youth of Pakistan possess tremendous potential to bring positive change at a societal level,` he added.

He said a largely illiterate population could be easily misguided, divided and radicalised. Mr David said the Pakistan government was committed to the cause of the education which would help in development of education in the country.

He said his chain of colleges also planned to establish charity school in Pakistan so that poor and needy was provided quality education at low cost.

Responding to a question, he said Pakistan was blessed with rich heritage and unique cultural resources.

He said that Pakistan was quite different from what world community knew about it. Correspondent
