GBLA legislates to ban corporal punishment, wall-chalking

GILGIT: The GilgitBaltistan Legislative Assembly (GBLA) on Wednesday made into laws three bills, aimed at prohibiting hate wall chall(ing, corporal punishment in educational institutions, and addressing environmental issues arising out of construction of power projects and cutting of forests.

Speaker Fida Mohammad Nashad chaired the session.

Parliamentary secretary law Aurangzeb Khan Advocate had tabled the three bills namely Environmental Protection Act, 2015, Prohibition of Corporal Punishment Act, 2015 and Prohibition of Expressing Matter on Walls Act, 2015.

The house also deliberated upon the proposed Child Marriages Restraint Act, 2015, but the chair referred it to a select committee of the house for making necessary amendments to it.

The GBLA also passed two resolutions, thanking Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for appointing Ghazanfar Ali Khan as GB Governor and attending his oath-taking ceremony, and praising the role of the force commander, elected representatives and notables of Diamer for getting freed two abducted employees of SCO.

Aurangzeb Khan, speaking on the occasion, said the Environmental Protection Act, 2015, would address the environmental issues of the region, especially in the wake of the construction of power projects.

Deputy Speaker Jaffarullah Khan said cutting of forests in the region could be tackled after implementation of the relevant law.
