Afghans asked to leave Khyber

2015-01-11
LANDI KOTAL: Following strict directives by the Fata secretariat, Landi Kotal and Jamrud political administrations on Saturday served notices on Afghan nationals, including prayer leaders and seminary students, to leave the region with immediate effect.

Officials said that they had also served notices to elders in Jamrud and Landi Kotal to immediately replace Afghan prayer leaders and ask the unregistered Afghan students in local seminaries to leave the area.

They said that Khasadars and Levies personnel were ordered to conduct visits to suspected mosques and seminaries alongside informing residents about the latest official directives about the expulsion of Afghan nationals.

The Jamrud administration does not possess any exact data about the number of Afghan students studying in local seminaries and the Afghan prayer leaders in local mosques.

Officials, however, said that most of the Afghan students had concentrated in private madrassahs in Jamrud where they were also provided free lodging. —Correspondent
