Three killed as car ambushed in Jamrud

LANDI KOTAL: Three persons, including a man and his son, were killed and another was injured in a firing incident in Jamrud on Sunday.

Officials said Asghar Khan along with his son, Izhar, and two other relatives, Adnan and Aftab, was going in a car from Shah Kas to his home in Wazir Dhand area when their vehicles was ambushed by two armed motorcycle riders near a checkpost in Shah Kas.

They said indiscriminate fire by the gunmen resulted in the killing of Asghar Khan, Izhar and Adnan, while Aftab received multiple bullet injuries.

The local administration registered a case against the unknown assailants and started investigations as reason behind the killing could not be immediately known.

Meanwhile, khasadar personnel at Torkham border seized US dollar 25,000 from a resident of Landi Kotal who was trying to cross the border into Pakistan on Sunday.

Separately, the Khyber Contractors Association has rejected the postqualification tender of Rs38 million for different development schemes of the newly inaugurated Bara Municipal Committee.

In a statement issued in Jamrud on Sunday, the association`s president Iqbal Afridi alleged the development projects were allotted to a hand-picked group of contractors by ignoring set procedure for award of such contracts in an open bid.

He accused all the executive engineers of Khyber Agency of demanding 12 per cent commission on all development projects.

Iqbal Afridi demanded of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Sardar Mahtab Ahmad Khan to cancel all the tenders and award the same to the deserving contractors in a transparent manner. He also urged the governor to take action against the executive engineers for demanding illegal commissions from them.Correspondent
