Mansehra health workers threaten to go on strike

MANSEHRA: The doctors and paramedics in the district have threatened to go on strike if district administration fails to register an FIR against those people, who attacked and injured staffers of civil hospital in Garhi Habibullah.

Led by Dr Iftakhar Zaidi and president of Paramedics Association Waheed Akram, the doctors and paramedics met with Deputy Commissioner Zulfiqar Shah and expressed their anger over attack on staff of civil hospital in Garhi Habibullah the other day.

They said that doctors, paramedics and nurses of the hospital were tortured and dragged. They said that they would go on strike from Monday if FIR was not registered against the attackers.

Dr Zaidi said that health workers in the district would observe a token strike for one-hour on each Friday and Saturday to register their protest against the incident.

`We have been serving patients with utmost sincerity. Occurrence of such incidents can`t be tolerated at any cost,` he said.

The deputy commissioner assured the delegation that he would look into the matter to address their grievances.

Nabila Khan, the district president of Nursing Association, in a statement also expressed anger over the incident and demanded registration of FIR against the attackers.

She said that no one should take law into his hands if he had any complaint against the hospital staff. The people involved in the attack should be taken to task without any further delay, she added.

Ms Khan said that nursing staff would also take part in the strike on Monday as nurses of the said hospital were also threatened.

ACCIDENT: A woman was killed and seven members of her family were injured when their car plunged into a deep ravine in Gora Phar area of Garhi Habibullah onThursday.

Sources said that the car was overloaded as eight people were travelling in it. The driver lost control over the wheel while negotiating a sharp turn and the car fell into a deep ravine, they added.

Thelocalpeoplerushedtothescene and shifted the injured to civil hospital in Garhi Habibullah wherefrom they were referred to King Abdullah Teaching Horsetail after emergency treatment.

However, one of the injured identified as Kali Bibi succumbed to her injuries while being shifted to the hospital. The injured members of her family were identified as Rehmat Ali, Nazia Bibi, Mohammad Rashid, Mohammad Qasim, Rajib Ali, Kashaf Ali and Mohammad Suleman.

Meanwhile, a man identified as Ahmad Gul was shot dead in Chaterplan Bazaar and the assailants managed to escape. Police registered an FIR against Mohammad Naeem and Mohammad Bashir.

POWER SUPPLY: The administration of Upper Kohistan district has assured the residents of Dasu that Wapda would soon start work to provide electricity to the city and the adjoining areas.

The people of Dasu and Kamila had staged a rally last week to demand provision of electricity to their areas.

On Thursday, a delegation led by Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf leader Advocate Abdul Hakim Khan, Shamsur Rehman and Maulana Inayatur Rehman met with Deputy Commissioner Syed Mohammad Shah at his office and told him that the deadline set by local people to the government for establishing contacts with them would end in a couple of days.

The DC told them that he had already taken up the issue with the government and people of area would soon hear good news. -Correspondent
