ISLAMABAD: Protest by 100 students, who were denied admission in the Federal Medical and Dental College (FMDC) despite figuring on the merit list, bore fruit as Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) on Wednesday decided to resolve the issue immediately.

The students on Tuesday held a protest in front of Parliament House and succeeded in getting the attention of the parliamentarians.

They claimed they had cleared the admission test and figured on merit list circulated on April 22.

Since then they have been contacting the management of the FMDC and Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) for the admission but their issue could not be resolved.

PMDC officials claim that the FMDC lacks the faculty for the courses it offers and has other deficiencies and so cannot be allowed to start classes.

However management of the FMDC, which has become a constituent bodyof the Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Medical University (Pims), claims that now all issues have been resolved as there is hospital in Pims and also a number of renowned faculty members who will teach in the FMDC.

On Wednesday the Pims vice-chancellor, Dr Javed Akram, had a meeting with the PMDC president, Prof.

Dr. Masood Hameed Khan and discussedtheissue.

According to a statement issued by the PMDC, the council officials will visit FMDC Islamabad on June 15 to check whether the college had rectified the deficiencies and then would decide to lift the ban on admission to the said college.

Dr Javed Akram while talking to Dawn said that during the meeting he informed the president PMDC about the problem of the students and it was decided to resolve the issue as soon as possible.

`I hope that problem will be resolve and students will be able to start their studies,` he said.A Reporter
