PEEF distributes 0.1 million scholarships

LAHORE: The Punjab Educational Endowment Fund (PEEF) has so far distributed as many as 100,000 scholarships among the talented but needy students purely on merit.

This was stated by PEEF Vice Chairman Dr Amjad Saqib at a ceremony held at Punjab University`s Al Razi Hall on Wednesday to distribute fund`s scholarship cards among 291 PU students.

Dr Saqib said the PU students obtained the biggest share in the PEEF financial assistance as 1,825 scholarships worth Rs200 million had been distributed among shining students. He lauded the services rendered by PU Vice Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran for restoring the glory of the oldest institution of the country.

Earlier, Prof Kamran lauded the revolutionary step taken by Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif for providing financial assistance to the needy but talented students. He said the PU ranking was improving because of research-friendly policies introduced by theuniversity administration.

Meanwhile, more than 80 students of four universities were given scholarships at a ceremony held at the Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) on Wednesday.

The students of University of Agriculture Faisalabad, University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Lahore, LCWU, and Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) were given the scholarships under the Merit and Needs Based Scholarship Programme (MNBSP) of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), said a release.

Higher Education Commission Member (HRD) Dr G Raza Bhatti on the occasion appreciated the support from the US government and partner universitiesin promotinghighereducation in Pakistan.

He also highlighted various programmes of HEC, including local and overseas scholarships projects, faculty and infrastructure development.

LCWU Acting Vice Chancellor Dr Tahira Buttar also spoke at the ceremony.
