Girls clinch top spots in Peshawar board`s HSSC exam results

PESHAWAR: Girls clinched the top three positions in the higher secondary school certificate examination results announced by the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Peshawar, on Monday.

Among the seven girl students who shared the top three positions six were from the Jinnah College for Women. Farah Gul of the college topped the exam results by obtaining 1,002 marks out of total 1,100 marks.

Similarly, four female students with three from Jinnah College for Women and one from Islamia College for Girls shared the second position by getting 995 marks each.

They included Haseena Fazal, Hina Shams, Shafiq Tanveer and Maria Ahmad.

The two third position holding girls, Alveena Karam and Zain Noor Fida, also belonging to the Jinnah College for Women, secured 994 marks each. Similarly, 16 of the overall top 20 positions were clinched by girls students.

Fourteen of them belonged to Jinnah College for Women and one each to Islamia College for Girls and Forward Girls College, Hayatabad.

The four male students among the top 20 were the students of Islamia College Peshawar.

The results were declared at an award distribution ceremony on the premises of the board. Vicechancellor Islamia College University Ajmal Khan was the chief guest.

The position holder students were awarded cash prizes, com-mendation certificates and shields.

The controller examinations Hamidullah Jan Marwat said over 96,000 students appeared in both first and second years of the examinations, of which 32,093 students qualiñed the Erst year exams with a pass percentage of 68.1 per cent and 35,035 passed the part-II exams results with passing percentage at 72.11 per cent.

In pre-engineering, the topthree positions were secured by male students. Abdur Rahman of Islamia College Peshawar scored 984 marks to top the discipline followed by Mian Sajawal Shah and Saifullah of the same college with 983 and 981 marks, respectively.

In general science group, Sharif Ahmad of Islamia College Peshawar secured the top position by obtaining 944 marks, followed by Kamran Khan of Shinwari Model College, Landi Kotal, with942 marks and Naima Tariq of Jinnah College for Women with 932 marks.

Hafiza Kianat of Peshawar Model Degree College topped the humanities group, obtaining 884 marks. Zara Hidayat of Jinnah College for Women got 880 marl
