JI launches drive for women rights in KP, Fata

PESHAWAR: Jamaat-iIslami`s women wing has launched a three months long awareness campaign for the rights of women in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Federally Administered Tribal Areas and urged the people from different walks of life, particularly men, to support the campaign.

Speaking at a press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Thursday, JI women wing nazima (head) and former MNA Inayat Begum said that the campaign would continue till Nov 10 across KP and Fata.

She said that the main objective of the campaign was to spread the message of JI and raise awareness of women issues like swara, honor killing, forced marriage and deprivation from the heritage right.

Inayat Begum said that they would also urge the people to join JI, claiming that it was the only party that had been raising voice for women`s rights.

She said that they would highlight the issues of women at all available platforms and for making effective legislation in this regard.

She said that another drive would be launched at the union council and district levels to invite women to join JI and play their role for the welfare of women in the country.

The JI leader said they had set a one million target for women membership in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Fata.

She said that different activities would be held at the UC, zone, district and provincial levels.

The former lawmaker said that they would also strive for the merger of Fata with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, adding that advisory councils would be established at different levels to run the campaigns properly.

She said that teachers` conventions and membership drive would be conducted at the district level in the province.
