Blasts damage two houses in Peshawar

PESHAWAR, Dec 10: Two houses were partially damaged when two improvised explosive devices went off in different areas here on Tuesday morning.

The first incident took place in Wadpaga area in the limits of Chamkani police station where the explosive device was planted near the main gate of the house of Naseem Hayat, a police officer.

Sources said that unidentified callers had demanded extortion from the police officer and threatened to kidnap his children if their demand was not met.

Police said that the house of Mr Hayat was partially damaged in the blast. Two cars parked at his home were also damaged, they added.

In another incident, thehouse and car of a tribal elder was partially damaged when an explosive device went off in Larama village in the limits of Khazana police station.

Sher Zaman, the owner of the house, told police that the incident took place early in the morning.

Meanwhile, an unidentified armed person was killed in encounter with police on Tuesday morning in Khatako Pul area in the limits of Urmar police station.

Police said that DSP Shaukat Khan was patrolling the area in his official van when two armed persons opened firing on him. Police also retaliated and killed one of the attackers. The DSP remained unhurt in the attack.
