By Our Staff Reporter 2017-02-12
KARACHI: The year`s first lunar eclipse on Saturday was missed by most people, but not really due to its appearance in the wee hours of the morning. It was mostly because it was not a total eclipse.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, it was a penumbral eclipse where only the more diffused outer shadow of the Earth fallson the moon`s face.

`The eclipse began at 3.34am and continued till 7.53am with reaching its peak at 5.44am,` Met Chief and Director Abdul Rashid told Dawn.

`Had it been a total eclipse, you would have noticed a clear colour change.

It would have been orange in colour,` he added.

The Met Office has said that the year`s first solar eclipse will be on Feb 26, however, it will not be visible in Pakistan.
