LAKKI MARWAT: Health workers on Tuesday vaccinated children in various localities of Kurrum Par area amid tight security following local people`s assurance to cooperate with the anti-polio teams. The campaign was carried out in Wanda Shahabkhel, Kaichi Kamar, Samandi, Landiwah and other localities.
A police official claimed that vac-cinators accompanied by policemen didn`t face any resistance and ran the campaign smoothly in the localities bordering Mianwali district of Punjab and Karak. He said while mobile teams went door to door, fixed teams remained at the health facilities to administer anti-polio drops to children.
The official said DPO Ismail Kharak and other police officers visited the areas and checked security arrangements made for the threeday anti-polio campaign continuingacross the district.
Meanwhile, talking to members of Marwat Qaumi Jirga, the DPO said the police had made tight security arrangements to make the anti-polio drive a success. `The police will ensure access of health workers to each and every child of the district,` he assured.
The meeting took place after reports that some parents were reluctant to get their children vaccinated against polio.
The jirga head Haji Aslam Khaninformed the DPO about the problems faced by the residents of remote localities and requested him to bring them into the notice of the quarters concerned. The DPO assured to approach relevant authorities for resolution of people`s problems.
Mr Kharak asked the elders to persuade people to assist polio teams for protecting their children from the deadly disease. `Along with eradicating crimes the district police will also fight against polio with full force,` he maintained.
